Safe? Is it safe yet?

Running up that Hill with Dogs

It was going to be a hot day. I got up early. I was still a novice at hiking in the chaparral and thought I had to get an early start. Why?  To hit the trail before? Before the heat? Before the thunderstorms gathered? A problem of the Rocky Mountains but very unlikely in the chaparral. In time I learned the best time for me to hike was in the late afternoon when the day got cooler as I went along and the light more beautiful.

But I didn’t know that yet.

I “saddled” Truffle and Molly and we headed to Mission Trails to climb Big Dog that Sunday morning in May.
