I STILL and Will ALWAYS Hate this Song

Daily Prompt 10,000 Spoons…When all you need is a knife might not be ironic, but it is unfortunate. Add your own verse, stanza, or story of badly-timed annoyance to Alanis Morissette’s classic.

Here is how I hated this song last time this dumb prompt came around.

A trite song striking the right chord
With a young generation downcast and bored.
Pretty girl with a nasal whine, CDs fly off the shelves
But in the long-term, such sniveling won’t sell
You appear to be “deep” but that isn’t it.
Rake in the millions from just one hit.
Life has a funny way of helping you out.
Isn’t it ironic.

Here’s how I’m hating it this time
Irony is a human construction, a point of view
A bad prompt repeats itself, but I’m writing it anyway
It’s something to do while I drink my coffee.
Isn’t it ironic?
This song is not a “classic.” In time,
No one will remember it. Youth always writes
Songs about their surprise at life’s misery.
And isn’t that ironic…don’t you think?

  1. I remember the prompt when it first came around and I skipped it then because … ta da … I didn’t even know this WAS a song having never heard it. I don’t know what that says about me, but the prompt doesn’t do much for me. I’m deliciously out of touch.
