A Prompt that was Fated to Return?

Daily Prompt Que Sera Sera Do you believe in fate or do you believe you can control your own destiny?

It is not “fate” and it is not “destiny.” Those are romanticized notions for explaining that we don’t have much to say about what happens to us. I’ve written about this a half a dozen times already — but my point is and will continue to be — much of our life is “governed” by luck and biology. We cannot even control ourselves very much since self-awareness, self-knowledge and self-control are hard won. There are many people who would like to believe that they control their “fates” but they’re deluded.

The question of positive thinking has come up many times in human history (it didn’t start with the egregious The Secret.) Positive thinking is a good idea since it makes life a lot more enjoyable. My family called it, “Putting a good face on it.” That’s about the best we can do and it’s NOT nothing. I give you Tigger and I give you Eyeore.

Last year I wrote about this and included an interesting article about how a cat parasite can drive us into loving someone.

  1. I don’t think there is such a think as fate, there is not such a thing as destiny. Why will my dad be 100 years old end of September? Who knows. He smoked until he could not longer afford it, he fought in a world war and survived many other catastrophes. Fate, destiny, no, I think just good luck. And all being well dad I will celebrate your birthday with you in London. And dad, he doesn’t know anything about fate he said sometimes he has good days and sometimes bad days.
