Last Year

I’m very interested in what I was thinking last year, before I made the big move to Colorado. Today I learned that I wrote this prompt in January 2014. I like what I wrote. I think it’s informative to anyone on the brink of a huge life change in which they must make an active, engaged, decision. I wrote it as an internal dialogue and I don’t think it’s Dude and Lamont;

Daily Prompt: Obstacle Course: January 27, 2014: Think about what you wanted to accomplish last week. Did you? What are the things that hold you back from doing everything you’d like to do?

“Hmmm… Time…”
“Time?”
“Yes, time. Isn’t that the biggest obstacle for everyone?”
“Time or duration?”
“OK, look, I have to go teach people how to write very soon. It’s 5:40 am. I don’t have TIME for one of these faux philosophical mind games.”
“Just sayin’…”
“That ‘just sayin’ thing? Now that’s annoying. People do that because they don’t want to dispute their point with anyone and they think they’re right.”
“That’s true. It’s icky and manipulative. I’m sorry.”
“I’m facing a big decision but I might not be. That’s the biggest obstacle right now to everything, to my peace of mind, to creative work, everything. I don’t know if I have to make this decision now — or even if I have to make it at all. I can’t even make a decent list of priorities. One thing cancels out the next. Part of it is not having a functioning crystal ball, another is that I work so much I don’t really have any calm down time to think about it, another is a big change has happened outside of my control and I don’t know if it’s a good thing or a bad thing.”
“What’s the decision?”
“What to do with my life!”
“For the love of god, you’re NOT 18! You should know that by now!”
“Ha. Well, I have news for you, smarty pants. No one has that figured out for ALL of their lives.”
“You might be right. Just sayin’. So what’s the decision EXACTLY?”
“Well, here…”

    • After I wrote this I thought ‘this didn’t come out the way I meant it to.’ I wasn’t following you last year so your posts are all new reading for me. I hope you didn’t misunderstand or think I was being a smart ass.
